Art 🎨

Painting is meditation in motion; it’s a dance of the body and brush. Painting is a language…a way of expressing a sentiment or message.

Time with the pencil, pen or brush can be joyful, quiet, contemplative, euphoric, healing, and refreshing. The process of painting affects your inner environment. The Arts are used as a teaching tool in many workshops because they assists with expression in a creative way. Sounds can become either magnified or silenced, depending on their essence.

As a girl, reading, writing, singing, dancing, and drawing helped to lower the volume and lessen the tension in the house. These activities provided a quiet creative space where I could be productive and peaceful. It was as if an entirely different environment was formed; one where thoughts had room to breathe, and the little girl in me had freedom of expression.

There’s an artist is all of us, through the direct connection between the gift of creation and the fruit of creativity. Whether cooking is your thing, or you have a knack for photography, decorating, gardening, sewing, writing, or organizing, we each have ways that creativity bubbles and blossoms.

When I was at secondary school, a group of us went to a career showcase where we were introduced to the possibility of studying Art, in Miami. I wasn’t one of the top students in Art, but I enjoyed every moment of the lessons in drawing, painting, designing posters, lino carving, and batik. It amazed me how something seemingly plain in its original state could transform into something vibrant and beautiful, with care, attention, skill, colour, and time. I didn’t go to study in Miami, but the love for artistry remained and blossomed in time. A gift set of paints and brushes were given to me by a friend who wasn’t yet inspired to start her art journey, and it was the answer my artist heart needed right then and there.

Since then, I’ve been blessed with invitations to showcase my art at exhibitions featuring established artists, and many of these pieces are now in displayed in homes here and abroad.

It starts with one – gathering shells on the beach, one of my favourite things to do and places to be. Shelling requires patience. A beach can have countless shells, stones, seaglass and seafans usually of the same shape and design, and at times, the salty treasures arrive like gifts with each wave. When we’re patient, these ones appear like diamonds on the sand.

These tropical home decor pieces (3 and 1/2 ft – 6ft) are painted on natural materials from trees (found on the floor bed). They can be displayed both indoors and under reasonably-covered outdoor areas. Each piece has a one-of-a-kind design, and is gently baked in the sun after painting. To refresh any room in seconds, flip it over for a complimenting design. These are painted in mostly beach and nature themes and can be requested as individual decor items and as a set of 5 or more for large venues, or rented for stage decor. They have a high tolerance for sunshine and sprinkles of light rain.

A big thank you to The Caribbean Champions Of Colour for sponsoring paints for the first 15 pieces of my tropical home decor line.
